SRI LANKA CUSTOMS ENTERS A PAPERLESS ERA

Sri Lanka Customs will officially launch its first paperless customs declaration system on 1 October 2026 at the Sri Lanka Customs Auditorium, Colombo, marking an important step towards the digital transformation of customs procedures and improving services to the trading community

The new system will enable customs declarations and supporting documents to be submitted and processed electronically, reducing reliance on physical documents, manual handling, and the movement of paper files.

The initiative is expected to bring a number of practical benefits, including faster processing, greater transparency, improved document traceability, and reduced administrative delays. It will also support more effective risk-based customs controls, revenue protection, regulatory compliance, and trade facilitation, while contributing to a more environmentally sustainable working environment and supporting the wider move towards digital government services.

The launch represents an important milestone in Sri Lanka Customs efforts to build a more efficient, transparent, secure, and technology-driven Customs administration that responds to the needs of modern international trade.
